Here are some of the latest exciting events happening here at 1 in Four...
Wednesday night a couple of the co-founders of 1 in Four sat around my kitchen table in true grassroots form, snipping purple ribbon and pinning our thumbs, er, rather, the ribbon into Domestic Violence Awareness ribbons:
Thursday was a very empowering day for 1 in Four. We were invited to provide material about our site to be available at the Women's Centre National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women event, part of which the YWCA happened to post a photo of on their facebook gallery (don't those ribbons look familiar??):
At the same time this event was taking place, 1 in Four was giving a presentation at LEAF to the current participants about what our website has to offer. It was very well received and we look forward to some new names in the Forum.
We also received a very unsolicited and welcome link through Happening Hamilton, where they utilized our Community Links page to help share information with their viewership about domestic violence resources in our area:
This is exactly the sort of connections we are so very excited to make. 1 in Four is here to bridge the gap between domestic violence support service providers here in Hamilton and the women who access them. When we see community agencies and groups reaching out to link our site in just this fashion, we know we've begun to make real headway into filling that gap. Remembering of course, we are the vehicle not the destination.
Tonight, Friday, we will be back to snipping bits of purple ribbon, as well as folding more pamphlets, to have available at a table at an event on Saturday held by COTR at 2149 Upper James St from 10am - 2pm. We will sneak away around 1pm to get some professional photos taken, by a generous donation of services to the Good Shepherd Wellness program (look for them online in the days to come). It is a busy time of year, but with each new day we grow a little stronger and our voice has a better chance of being heard. Come and join in the discussion; let us know what is on your mind -- tell your story or share your excitement for the season. We would love to from you.
