We thought you might like to know a little background about the women who work behind the scenes here at 1 in Four.
Director of Communications
A mother of three and a survivor of domestic violence, I am passionate about helping women who feel isolated and alone, women who may have children that are profoundly impacted by the trauma of domestic violence and women who need to understand where they can go to get help for themselves and their families. I am a registered nurse who has worked for the last 16 years in a critical care area only to have to flee to a women's shelter and have my whole life changed. I know fear, I know pain and I now know food banks...I'm in good company.
Role with 1 in Four: liaison between our project and service agencies in Hamilton. The objective is to get us all on the same page. We want to bridge that gap, so that all survivors of domestic violence can access the services that are already here! You'll also see me posting blogs as cjw.
Director of Operations
An educator and mother of three beautiful children. Getting connected with other women survivors AND the services available in the community has helped me to realize that though I still sometimes feel lonely, I am far from ALONE. Help really IS out there! I hope 1 in Four can help bridge the gap for someone else looking for help...and hope.
Role at 1 in Four: maintaining and updating the Calendar of events and groups available in Hamilton. Please contact me if there are events you'd like to see posted! You might even see me blog as JEP.
Director of Web Services
A single mother of one and long-time survivor of both sexual abuse and domestic violence. My journey has been a series of catastrophes that are finally coming into alignment -- in the words of Kahlil Gibran "Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars." I am only just two years living in Hamilton, but already see this as a resting place for the long-haul. I have lived in 36 places in my 32 years of life, my daughter has called 15 different addresses "home" in her short 8 years. Much of this upset has been due to one form of abuse or another.
Now that we are in a safe and stable home, I have become free to focus on other endeavors. I went to Brock University for Child and Youth Studies, but as I have an extensive background with web design and the internet, I am ready to tackle this position head on. I am so excited to build a site where survivors can connect.
Role with 1 in Four: to maintain all that you see with the website, and you'll also find me posting as cass.
