It has been a while since I wrote a blog post for 1infour, considering I wrote everyday for about a year, this has indeed been a long break! Lots of reasons I guess, time moves on but some things don’t change. I am not the person I was when we started 1infour, I am older, hopefully a little wiser but definitely stronger.
Well for one, 1infour exists for the children : not just my children but for every child who has lived in a home where anger and tension are the norm, where mothers turn away so that the children won’t see their tears and where “walking on eggshells” is the safest way to be.
1infour exists for the women (men too) who don’t understand what is going on in their relationships, don’t understand why the person they love seems to hate them, how the “person of their dreams” is now the person who gives them panic attacks.
1infour exists for the grandmothers and grandfathers , for the aunts and uncles and cousins and neighbours and teachers, for the often silent onlookers who ache at what they see happening, who ache for the ones they love but are afraid that if they speak out then they will lose all contact, that the confiding will stop...
1infour exists for teenagers who want to make good and informed decisions, who want to know how they can find out what is acceptable and unacceptable behaviour in a relationship and how they can find people to talk to who will understand
1infour is for the agencies that can help, for the wonderfully talented and compassionate individuals and organisations who work so hard to provide the expertise needed to make sense of violence against women and for the shelters who offer safe haven. We know you need to show that your services are needed, that you worry about funding and 1infour recognises that it would not even exist if your help had not been there. We want others to find you too.
1infour is here because there is a need. I am a woman who has lived and am living with the effects of domestic violence. I have come a long way and am proud of every hurdle I have faced. I want my story of pain and strength to speak to others and in so doing help them to know that there is help in this city and that there are people who care. 1infour is about letting people know that they are not alone.by
